Morning walk: -2C/27F, early – middle of the night really – quiet was so quiet, moon so bright and air so perfect, hardly a highway sound, hardly a sound from the streets – just the jingle, Gusta’s collar tags, as she leapt from sniffing site to sniffing site with futile tugs at things still frozen in ice, wanting something she just couldn’t have right now.
I found a quote - don’t know the source - that struck me first as funny, then profound, then again hilarious; it goes like this: ‘It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.’ . . . or maybe an example?
Fresh lessons, like new ideas thrust upon us, seem that way at first; we realize most are not new at all, but old ideas in new clothes, realizations revisited, shortcomings and triumph reminders when conquests and dreams symbolize the best in us and the worst in us, because inevitably we are all a mixture of both.

We’ll win silver. At least, but Canadians are thinking gold. Beyond pride in our athletes this exemplifies national pride. Polite nation. Quiet nation. Proud 33 million people, vicariously live through the goals, hard work and sweat of a team of young men. Olympic Winter Games wrap today;
Sure, the skiers, bobsledders, curlers and everyone else worked hard on snow and ice – but this is it. It all comes down to this unrealistic transference of goals and pride. Getting to the podium in life, achieving a goal; maybe we just need clear thinking and clear goals.
A hockey team’s achievement is not connected to the work ethic of average Canadians – or is it? It is not connected to a nation’s sense of purpose, or is it? Go
